I have a new obsession. Embroidery hoop wall art. I know, I know ... it has been around for ages and I'm a bit slow on the uptake, but I've been daunted about making them myself. However, with the arrival of our new Little Tee Tee crochet lace I could delay the inevitable no longer - the fabric SCREAMED 'wall art'.
What you will need:
- Wooden embroidery hoop (I will be stocking them soon but in the meantime just visit your local sewing shop)
- Fabric of choice. We used our wide crochet lace which you can purchase HERE
- Embellishments and ribbons if desired
- Hot glue gun (optional)
Lay your crochet doily fabric on a flat surface & place your hoop on top.
Either draw a cutting line about 2" wider than the hoop using a washable fabric pen/chalk, or try your luck and freehand cut it like I did (I couldn't find my chalk!)
Separate the two hoops by unscrewing the joining screw
Taking the smaller/inside hoop, lay the crochet doily fabric on top of the ring.
Place the outside ring over the fabric & inside ring.
Pull the fabric edges until the tension of the fabric is nice and tight.
If relevant, check that you have the fabric pattern in the right spot (ie I wanted the small flower in the centre of my canvas).
Once you are happy with the tension and the fabric placement tighten the screw so the hoops are secure once more.
Trim off the excess fabric
Run a line of hot glue around the joins to keep your fabric from moving or fraying (this step is optional)
There are many varying was of finishing off the back of these hoops. I wanted the colour of the wall to be seen through our crochet doily fabric so I chose not to cut a second piece of fabric and glue it to the back. You can also cut the fabric a little wider and glue the excess to the inside of the inner hoop. Have a play with it and you'll find the option that best suits your taste.
You can leave the finished product as is or choose to decorate it with ribbons, fabric flowers, appliques etc. Have a scroll through Pinterest or Etsy for more inspiration and then pop into our Little Tee Tee website to shop for all your embellishment supplies.
